Manhole covers

I have a thing for manhole covers, everywhere I go I notice them. A few years ago I started taking snapshot photos of them and now I’ve got over 150 photos of them in my camera roll. I know there are specialty manhole covers in cities in Japan for example. But the ones I like best are the ones that show their age. There is something about the continuity implied in an object so strong and sturdy that it can make it through decades of wear and tear and still be useful. I like the ones that are rusty, worn down, painted over and driven over. No fleeting beauty, no need for trends, no need for eye catching click bait. Just enduring dependability; utterly practical, useful forever and, even so, conveying design and style.
