New work has been created…

Have you ever completed a project and not felt all that jazzed about it? It feels good to get things crossed off the to-do list, but there's no sparkle, no magic. That's how I feel right now about the work I completed in the past 6 weeks. Rather than making work that came from the soul, I created work that would be ready for a show. I've written about this before, but I feel it even more strongly now, that I don't like making art as a product. I am not a production facility. I create because I need to say something using color, paint, and materials that couldn't be said in words or writing. When I create work that comes from that place it is different. Even though I am feeling a bit of pressure about getting ready for a Jan 31 show, I am going to get in the studio this week to see if some ideas I've got will come to life. Maybe they won't be ready in time for the show, but it will feel good to work on something from the heart.
